THE AIRPORT

The history of Chelyabinsk aicraft enterprise began in 1930. In the 1930s-1940s it was based in Shagol, the joint airfield for civil and military planes.

In 1953 all services of the airport and the crew were redeployed to the new civil airfield Balandino.

All necessary infrastracture was created: an air terminal, radio centre for air traffic control, premises for the crew, aircraft maintenance facilities, special vehicles and general management service.

In December of 1962 a concrete runway and a ramp for 10 aircrafts were put into service.

A new air terminal was built in 1974. In 1986 a detached building of the Arrival Lounge of domestic flights was completed.

In 1999-2000 the historic building of the air terminal was reconstructed and nowadays the International sector of the air terminal is located there. The airport possesses a new artificial runway with a range of landing facilities complying with category I of ICAO standards.

OAO Chelyabinsk aircraft enterprise ranks second in the sphere of air service in the Ural Federal District. In 2014 the airport served 1,4 mln. passengers.
